Dell and EMC: Why, and What It Means

Joe Tucci is Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of EMC Corporation. He has been EMC's Chairman since January 2006 and CEO since January 2001, a year after he joined the company as President and Chief Operating Officer. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of VMware Corporation. He is based at EMC's corporate headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, United States.

This is a bittersweet announcement for me. I am incredibly proud of the business we have built here at EMC. It has been a journey that I wouldn’t have traded for anything.  I love our people and the culture we have built. I owe each one of them an incredible debt of gratitude. And I thank our valued customers for their trust, business, and friendship.

But I also recognize the need for change, and size, coupled with focus of mission, and capabilities, matter! I believe that this transaction will put EMC and our terrific people in the best position possible to thrive in the new world order.

MWC: Bridging the Gap between the Enterprise and Service Providers

Last month, I took a trip to Barcelona to attend Mobile World Congress. This event is quite possibly the largest in the telecom and service provider industry. My rationale for going was to test a theory about (a) EMC’s focus on Cloud, Big Data, Trusted IT, and (b) our increasing emphasis on the Software-Defined Data Center: are these themes as interesting to Service Providers as they are to the Enterprise?
